After a raining and humid few days here in Savannah, we made it out of the house. I taught a sweaty bootcamp at Forsyth park this morning and then spent the rest of the day playing at the playground with a friend and her son (Shout out to Daphne!). She is a crunchy mama as well and helped open my eyes to just how easy some things I have been putting off can be. I still buy canned pasta sauce, and jarred peanut butter, etc... I need to stop hesitating and just go for it all. So that's the plan - once our pantry has been "eaten," I will not replace anything jarred or canned.
That went right along with today's resolution: Join a local CSA or Food Co-op! We are on such a strict budget that I wasn't sure if we could pull this off. It is going to raise our monthly grocery bill, but not by that much if we are really careful. It just means NO boxed crap - no canned crap - no "just because there's a coupon" STUFF. We need to start making our own "chips" - kale chips, pita chips, baked squash chips, banana chips, etc... for snacks and not rely on animal crackers, gold fish (well - gold bunnie because we buy the Annie's brand organics - but even those aren't good for you), crackers, and cookies!
So I signed us up for the Savannah Food Co-op (www.Savannahfoodcoop.com). I am REALLY excited about this! We have shopped at farmer's markets and been a part of a CSA for a little bit, but we would fall out of the habit (and still ended up shopping for crap at the grocery store!). We still have meats and such to eat out of our freezer and pantry before we put in our first order at the co-op, but we are having fun looking and planning!
PS - Yesterday's resolution was to get in a killer workout - mission COMPLETED!! I'm still training for the MS mud run next month, so I ran 1.5 miles then did push-ups, squats, and abs, ran another 1.5 miles, repeated strength exercises and then topped it off with another mile run. :) NICE!
Tomorrow's Resolution: Visit a friend! CHARLESTON DAY TRIP!!!! WHOOP WHOOP!
