Joining a Food Co-op

After a raining and humid few days here in Savannah, we made it out of the house.  I taught a sweaty bootcamp at Forsyth park this morning and then spent the rest of the day playing at the playground with a friend and her son (Shout out to Daphne!).  She is a crunchy mama as well and helped open my eyes to just how easy some things I have been putting off can be.  I still buy canned pasta sauce, and jarred peanut butter, etc...  I need to stop hesitating and just go for it all.  So that's the plan - once our pantry has been "eaten," I will not replace anything jarred or canned.

That went right along with today's resolution:  Join a local CSA or Food Co-op!   We are on such a strict budget that I wasn't sure if we could pull this off.  It is going to raise our monthly grocery bill, but not by that much if we are really careful.  It just means NO boxed crap - no canned crap - no "just because there's a coupon" STUFF.  We need to start making our own "chips" - kale chips, pita chips, baked squash chips, banana chips, etc...  for snacks and not rely on animal crackers, gold fish (well - gold bunnie because we buy the Annie's brand organics - but even those aren't good for you), crackers, and cookies!

So I signed us up for the Savannah Food Co-op (www.Savannahfoodcoop.com).  I am REALLY excited about this!  We have shopped at farmer's markets and been a part of a CSA for a little bit, but we would fall out of the habit (and still ended up shopping for crap at the grocery store!).  We still have meats and such to eat out of our freezer and pantry before we put in our first order at the co-op, but we are having fun looking and planning!

PS - Yesterday's resolution was to get in a killer workout - mission COMPLETED!!  I'm still training for the MS mud run next month, so I ran 1.5 miles then did push-ups, squats, and abs, ran another 1.5 miles, repeated strength exercises and then topped it off with another mile run.  :)  NICE!

Tomorrow's Resolution: Visit a friend!    CHARLESTON DAY TRIP!!!! WHOOP WHOOP!

4 resolutions and an allergic reaction.

Thursday:  We brought down the house!  Our family band was JAMMIN :)  Emmett represented on the toddler piano, while Scarlett marched with her drum.  Daddy and Mommy sang, played harmonicas, and had the occasional guitar solo.

Friday: (Resolution - play a new game)  Scarlett cheated at "Go Fish."  I am bragging about this because it takes skill to cheat at a game at 2 years old.  She dealt herself matches :)

Without cable, John and I have gotten creative with our evenings.  Friday night we invented a new game using two mason jars and 40 pennies.  Sitting across the room from one another we tossed pennies into the jars.  The most pennies in won.  Yes, it was a ridiculous game.  Yes, we laughed so hard we almost cried.  Yes, Scarlett ran around chasing our run away pennies!  Yes, we know that this is not a safe game once Emmett is crawling.

We also pulled out a few old school board games to round out the evening.  All-in-all it was a family-fun night!

Saturday: (Resolution - Make a final decision on preschool)  We paid a registration fee at the beginning of the month to hold a seat for Scarlett this September (She'll be 3 in August).  I am so so so very torn about sending her at all.  I have this internal battle going on that says she is learning so much with me, why pay someone else to "watch/teach" her when I'm already at home.  I broke down and decided I didn't want her to go, and John was a little argumentative, but eventually agreed. However, he presented the point that I teach my bootcamps three mornings a week at a very large park.  It would be nice to have her in "preschool" while I taught so that I wouldn't have to worry about her.  Well, that planted a seed that kept me awake all night last night.  I do not believe that she will learn anything amazing while there, and I do see a preschool as a babysitting service with toys, dress-up, painting, and playground time.  If I were not teaching my workout classes, the discussion would be over and we would re-evaluate next year for pre-k.  I decided that we will TRY preschool in the Fall.  She will go M/W/Th; two of my bootcamp days and the Thursday I can grocery shop/clean or run errands.  My third bootcamp day lasts from 11-2 and I do not want her at preschool from 9am-2pm.  So she can still come to the park one day a week with me.  I'm still hesitant and John knows this.  He told me to try for a week and then two and go from there.

Sunday:  (Resolution - Get taxes DONE)  This one is all John, as he is sitting behind the computer now with TurboTax.  We are praying to help pay off my car with our return this year (Thank you Emmett for a new baby tax!).  Hopefully that can happen so that we can continue with the Dave Ramsey process and start saving more money!!

Tomorrow's Resolution:    Write a letter - SNAIL MAIL - to a friend!

In other news:We are dealing with some sort of allergy with Emmett right now.  We know he has an extreme sensitivity to dairy, but this is something new.  for over a week now, we have been battling a rash on the front of his diaper area - no where near the butt, but completely over the front area.  He also started a rash around his mouth.  We thought heat rash at first, but then ruled it out when it didn't go away.  The face rash went away, but Saturday afternoon after eating 2 puffs (those rice puff baby snacks) his entire face, chin, and neck broke into a red rash.  They contain wheat and soy.  Well... awesome. now what?  His diaper area has not cleared at all and we have aired it during the daytime, tried hydro-cortisone cream, etc...  After reading and researching, we have learned that a severe allergy may take time to build and may not show it's face the first time the culprit is consumed, but each time it is ingested (or even touched) the sensitivity grows.  That is what has happened here...  Because today Emmett touched his jumper where the puffs were laying yesterday and rubbed his forehead -- it turned red, itchy and spread across his face within minutes.  We are calling the pediatrician in the morning for an appointment and a referral to an allergist.  Something is up and I need to know what I can and cannot have in my house food-wise.  Cross your fingers that this isn't as bad as I am thinking.

Baths and Bums :)

As you can see, I was prepared for picture taking at bath time!  Unfortunately, I didn't get a relaxing bath in at all.  But that's ok - just part of the whole "Mommy" job.  Scarlett and Emmett had a grand old time splashing together:

Today's Resolution was to spoil Emmett with something new.   No problems there -- Two cloth diapers are on the way!  Honeybums diapers are a favorite in this house - we have a superman diaper and an eggs/bacon diaper shipping out this Friday!   I know that I can make diapers and such, but I love these diapers (as they fit my CHUNKY man so well!)   A fluffy (cloth diapered) butt just makes my heart smile! There's something about how cute it is (along with saving the environment and my child's manhood not being exposed to chemicals).....

Tomorrow's Resolution: Family Band in the living room!  (Let's hope John gets off work before bedtime!)

Thank you Mom

So we have arrived at Monday February 20, 2012 -- Today's Resolution is to say, "Thank You."

The thank you goes to.... my mom :)   Mimi as the grandkidos call her.

Thank you for driving up (7 hours) for the weekend.  Thank you for watching the babies while I cooked and cleaned. Thank you for playing and laughing.... and teaching them.  Thank you for teaching me too.

I am so glad you were here to see Emmett clap, stand, and crawl (backwards) for the first time!  You get the credit for teaching him to clap.  You are a wonderful Mom and an amazing Mimi....

Thank you for kissing booboos and turning frowns into smiles :)

Tomorrow's resolution: Enjoy a bath!

She can pedal!

A bike ride was what yesterday's "To Do" list held for us!  We decided it was high time for Scarlett to pedal herself around the driveway.  With some helpful words, cheering, and a few tear-wipes, Scarlett managed to ride her bike without being pushed!  That has to be some kind of milestone :)  Of course, after about 3 minutes of "riding" (at snail pace), she saw a leaf.

The bike ride was over. hahaha....      This is how the other "children" felt about the whole event:  (BAhahahahaha)

Yep - I eat my placenta.

I realized that the lack of motivation could be due to a change in hormones or a change in Emmett's nursing.  I remembered that moments like this are exactly why I had my placenta encapsulated after Emmett's birth!  For those of you who are thinking, "She's F*#(&ing NUTS - who EATS a placenta?!?!"   Just hear me out.  I didn't fry it up and eat it.  I had it dried and turned into "vitamins."  When you really look at the process and reasoning behind it, you learn that your body loses nutrients and such during birth that you were just depending on for 9 months.  By encapsulating the placenta and taking a few pills on days that you feel "off,"  you are aiding the body in getting back to the 100% it should be.  So needless to say, I've been "popping a few pills" the past few days and am starting to feel better!  My toes have been painted; I finished a good run and taught two ROCK ON hard bootcamps.  I've been sleeping better and have had more energy.  I say the win goes to the placenta pills.   :)

Scarlett and I played with water outside and inside on Thursday!  Scarlett "swam" in her swim suit in the big tub, and we filled coolers outside and poured, measured, dunked, and splashed.

Friday flew by.  I had new brakes put on my car, taught bootcamp(s) and arrived home just before my mom drove in for the weekend.  The resolution was to try something new.  I am pulling at straws here, but I did broil fish for dinner and that is new for me.  I bake, grill, and pan sear fish, but never have I broiled it.  Blackened tilapia, fresh green beans, rice, and beans were served (and loved).

Today's Resolution: Try a new restaurant.

I'm a little mad that we didn't plan more ahead on this one.  Mimi (my mom) is here - we totally could have had a free babysitter!  But we had already bought and planned chili and other meals for the weekend (and week ahead).  So, my mom and I decided to try a restaurant for lunch.  The Green Truck in downtown Savannah has a 5 star rating.  Well of course (on a Saturday at 12:45pm) it was packed. The wait time was beyond possible for us (and two little ones in tow).  So we just hit up a Firehouse Subs.  I'm still hoping to try The Green Truck this weekend though!  Fingers are crossed.

On a happy note:  We shopped at Publix today and saved about $60 :)   GO COUPONS!!!

Tomorrow's resolution:  Ride Bikes!

In need of a little motivation.

My toes are unpainted, the 5k did not happen, and I'm so tired that I'm pretty sure I could fall asleep standing up.  Yes I have taken a pregnancy test to eliminate that option (and yes, the option has been eliminated).  I am sleeping at night; I am not running around like a lunatic doing a million things all the time (just some of the time); and I am eating right and exercising.  I think this happened about 6 months postpartum with Scarlett as well.  I'm going to pull out my placenta vitamins (Yes I am THAT woman who "eats" her placenta after birth - eat meaning, encapsulate into pills) and hope they can give me the boost that I need.  I plan on catching up with the resolutions throughout the week.  I'll be running tomorrow and possibly painting my toes tonight.
I'm happy to report that the sewing projects are still going well - I'm making burp cloths, a cloth diaper, a flower headband (for an order someone placed) and busy-bottoms for Emmett as well as a few new diapers for him (because, well, why not?!).
Today's Resolution is to play a game together.

Tomorrow's Resolution is to play with water...... hmmmmmm - I'm going to get creative!

Celebration Day!

Saturday was a beautiful day to celebrate a new life!  A really good girlfriend is due on March 1, 2012 with her second baby (first little boy), and we held a "Mannley" shower for her! (The little one's name will be: William Mannley)  There were mustaches and bow-ties galore.  We played games, opened gifts, chatted, and laughed.  It was a wonderful day with wonderful friends.  I cannot wait until little Liam makes his appearance!

Sunday we were still out of town and therefore away from the resolution jar for the first time.  We thought we would remember to pull and complete a resolution once we arrived home, but we were pooped and didn't even unpack.  As an unofficial resolution though, we started researching new car insurance policies to see if we could save any money!  :)

Today is Monday, and I just completed my first "Green" grocery trip (in more ways than one).  We are using cash only now to make purchases, and are only allowing for $400 a month in groceries, no matter what.  Well, with the help of E-Mealz (I'm LOVING that site!) and my coupons, I planned out meals for the next two weeks (because of the meat portions that I was buying).  We are moving to the "recycle only" options of packaging.  That means anything in plastic has to have the recyclable number 1 or 2 on it.  I brought my own produce bags and did pretty well for the first attempt.  We only drink almond milk and there aren't many options to its packaging.  It was also a challenge to cross the recycling goal with the budgeting goal.  I made out just under $120 (again - enough meat and hopefully cereal/milk for two weeks) - that also include 3 BIG bottles of wine :)  I'll call it a success.

In the process of cleaning out Scarlett's closet/drawers of too small clothes, I came to realize that I have no where to put all of these amazingly perfect little clothes.  We are going t hold on to everything until we are done have kids, but in reality - how long do you keep things?

Today's resolution was to paint the piggies (toes that is).... I'm hoping to get that done tonight!  I'm still trying to unpack from a crazy weekend, and then prepare for my mom coming to town this Friday.  On top of a new session of bootcamps starting this week, I'm already exhausted!

Tomorrow's resolution:  Run a 5k.     (Oh man - it was FREEZING out today....  I may see a gym day in tomorrow's schedule!)

Emmett is Off the Chart :)

Mommy's "Boobie Juice" is the best!  I basically produce cream.  Scarlett was quite the chunker in her infant days too, but Emmett just drops jaws.  He weighed in at 21lbs 14oz at his 6 month appointment!  That's the amount of weight I GAINED while pregnant!  haha. I cannot believe he is so chunky.  I just want to gobble him up.  He is the weight now that Scarlett was at 18 months old.  :)  Mama's Milk does good!

Let's just say that for Mommy-n-Me Bootcamp, my ergo (the best baby carrier ever for such a chunky monkey) is FULL - and I have a 22lb weight motivating my butt to get into shape!  Every ounce he gains is another ounce I'm working out with!

I have 5 weeks-ish until the Mud Run I registered for.  I have long since been a runner, but have had back issues that have prevented me from distance running anymore.  This race is just a 10k, but it's an obstacle and mud run! It's on my bucket list and can't wait to accomplish it!  I'm pretty sure that training by pushing a double jogger with a 22lb and a 27lb baby in it, I'll be ready!  :)

Today's resolution was:  Research and Discuss School Options for Scarlett.

This resolution was pulled at the right time, as registration opened today at the preschool we decided upon.  Well, I should back track. I did not want ANY preschool and still am not sold on school in general.  I was leaning toward homeschooling, but did have a part of me that wanted the school atmosphere. John however, is 100% adamant about school.  We came to the agreement that Montessori would be best for our family.  So the research began there.  The Montessori preschools were absurdly priced and above our budget.  Again, I did not want to do preschool at all and thought we could just wait and go to pre-k.  Well, after learning that the Montessori pre-k is a regular school day (8:30-3) 5 days a week, I reconsidered the idea of part-time preschool just to stair step her into pre-k.  So that is the plan.  Scarlett starts preschool next September.  Three days a week, three hours a day. I'm going to be emotional, but she'll be happy.  I still cannot believe that I just signed her up for SCHOOL.  I can't believe that she is 2 1/2 years old!  I think she'll always be my little 6lb 8 oz baby girl.

Tomorrow's Resolution: Celebrate Something FUN!

Thursday, February 9, 2012

Back to the resolutions!    Scarlett and I baked away yesterday!  We are not shy on cookies in this house at the moment:

All organic, dairy-free sugar cookies (using an organic, natural coloring) sandwiching a thick frosting!   DELICIOUS!

Today's Resolution:  (ugh a cleaning one)   catch up on laundry. fold clothes. put clothes away.

Passionate Views on Opposing Sides. (vaccines, circumcision, and such)

Passion is a wonderful emotion to have.  Being passionate about your way of life is the only way to truly live.  But when a husband and wife are passionate about opposing sides of a large issue, it is bound to get ugly.

John and I are both first born, strong-headed, know-it-all (with or without research to back us up), passionate, defensive people.  We are lucky to share similar views in most aspects of our life.  When we do not, we have learned that it is better to bow down to the one who is more passionate about the subject.  Here is an example: Vaccines and our children.  We are raising our children as natural as possible, and in as natural of an environment as we can provide.  I have have un-medicated births (Emmett was even a home water birth), I breastfeed until my children wean themselves (which is an extremely emotional time for me), we use cloth diapers, our kids wear amber necklaces, we bed share, we wear our babies, and we rear-face car seats until the maximum weight limit has been reached (Scarlett will have the scenic rear-view forever with her tiny frame!).  We decided while pregnant with Scarlett that we would follow a delayed/selective vaccination schedule.  At four months old, she was up for her first vaccine.  I was alone at the doctor and nervous for reasons that I could not explain.  I had done research while pregnant and thought this was what I wanted.  I started crying as she was given the vaccine.  The doctor came in to talk to me and (Thank you God for leading us down this "natural" path and to a pediatrician who believes in non-vaxing) spoke with me.  She told me that she wanted me to further my research and to learn everything possible about the vaccines before she would ever do another. She said that she would support my decision either way and reminded me just how amazing breastmilk is.  (And that Scarlett was home with me and not at a daycare, so therefore most of the vaccines were not truly needed at this point.)  I was on a mission to figure out why my gut was leading me against vaccinating our child.  John did not understand.  Once I read about the ingredients (I'll list a few to to spread awareness):   I'm pretty sure that informed parents would not knowingly inject their child with these....   (Feel free to google each ingredient for the side effects and problems each has)

I had opened John's eyes, but more so than that, he could see how passionate I had become on the issue that was "Vaccines."  He turned them over to me and simply said, "I trust you."

This is normally how passionate disagreements end in our house.  There isn't much fighting, but there is an extended period of time where the tension is high and neither of us backs down.

We are (and have been) in this position with a very large issue right now.  Circumcision.   CIRCUMCISION.

The topic has yet to be exhausted in this house. We stand firm on either side of the fence and are equally passionate.  I have read, researched, learned, and understand the truth behind cutting the tip of our son's penis off.  John has read and understands these things as well, but he is passionate about "protecting the emotions of our son" as John is SURE that Emmett will someday choose to have it done.  He "knows" how mean boys are and "knows" what will happen if our son's penis is left intact.  It does not matter the research and videos and statistics that are provided, because, as he claims, they are all from biased views.
We were blessed with a beautiful baby boy August of 2011 and were still at a full blown firing range when it came to his penis.  There is no medical necessity to a circumcision, no cleanliness factors, just a cosmetic founding.  I felt as though he was born peacefully, at home in the water, why ruin his peaceful existence thus far by cutting his penis? (Again, for cosmetic reasoning.)  In a turn of events, Emmett had jaundice so badly that he was not eligible for a circumcision within the 3 week time frame after birth.  We would have to wait until a year old and have him put fully under to have the procedure done.  This presented an entire new can of worms.  At least John and I agreed that putting our child completely under and risking the possible brain damage and other side effects (like death) were not worth the outcome of what John considers a "pretty penis" (those are my words, not his... but so true right? I mean it is for a cosmetic reason - so the outcome better be pretty.  And to this day, I have yet to ever describe a penis as "pretty.")   So Emmett has been bought time, time to someday make his own decision. Time for John and I to continue this battle of the passions.  But here is the bigger problem: what if our next child is a boy?  I pray that he will be left intact and have the opportunity to make this decision for himself one day.

I'm sure this will not be the last time that I post on these passionate topics (as well as others), so I will leave this portion of the post with a link to an amazing site. Proceed with caution, as it is graphic.

Passion is a wonderful emotion to have.  It is wonderful to share passions with your spouse or significant other.  Opposing passions can lead to tense discussions; however, it can also lead to eye-opening revelations in which your world may just change for the better.  John and I have a strong relationship and are blessed to even have the discussions and disagreements that we do.  It is a rare occurrence that we come across something as large and life-altering as these passionate stances, and believe me, it becomes heated, but I feel as though, in the end, we become stronger and grow together.  We also become more knowledgeable and informed, which in turn makes us better parents and spouses.  I love you John.  I am blessed to be married to such a strong-minded, passionate man.  You have my heart and always will.

Cloth Diapers Rock my Socks OFF.

I have had several friends and followers ask about cloth diapering, why we love it, and how it works "exactly."  Instead of rewriting what is already out there, I've found 3 great sites who have summed it up so well  :)   But I am more than happy to answer any questions...

We have been using cloth diapers since Scarlett was 8 weeks old.  She was out of diapers by 20 months and fully potty "learned" by 22 months.  Emmett arrived 2 months later and his butt has never seen a "paper" diaper.  The cloth diapers have kept his bottom cute since day one!  We chose to use pocket diapers and have had no problems with them.  Since they became a slight* obsession for me, I started to make them (I make all-in-twos).  Because I was saving money by making them (www.sweetredbird.com), I made a LOT of them.  Let's just say that our diaper stash is well into the 100's.

They are easy to handle (as well as adorable) - you do a cold rinse, a hot wash (with detergent), and a cold rinse - then dry them on low for an hour.  That's it.  EASY!  Not to mention, environmentally friendly.

I highly suggest looking into this for your child.  I don't know one person who has regretted making the switch.

Not to mention your child looks this cute:

*slight = BEYOND huge...  more of like a "spend every extra cent on diapers" kind of obsession

Bow Ties, Diapers, and Dresses - Oh My!

I have a little side sewing business (www.SweetRedBird.com) that has taken a side burner since Emmett joined the family.  We moved, and my sewing machine and fabrics seemed to be stacked in a closet somewhere.  I've been itching to start a new project and now have reasoning to!
I'm helping host a baby shower this weekend with the "Mustache" theme.  We need bow ties and mustaches galore!   I'll be following this fun tutorial for easy bow ties:

http://www.starsforstreetlights.com/2011/12/how-to-make-simple-bow.html

I also cut out some girly pink elephant fabric to make a ruffle butt cloth diaper for a soon-to-arrive little girl we know!  But I can't seem to make things for others without making something for my kids :)   So of course, I cut some aqua blue giraffe 'd pattern fabric, some blue/brown polka dots. and some dinosaur fabrics for diapers for Emmett!  Not to leave Scarlett out, I cut fabric to make her a few simple dresses.   We'll see how long everything takes to get done, but it'll be a fun little resolution to complete!

Today's Resolution is to make some cookies!

I'll be making a bunch and bringing them to the baby shower with me on Saturday.  I'm going to try all organic, dairy-free sugar cookies sandwiching a fudge frosting (also organic and dairy free of course).   :)

Cheers to Emmett!

My baby boy is 6 months old today.  I feel as though I just had him...  I remember laboring (and ROCKING it!) throughout the early morning hours while everyone else slept, and calling the midwives to the house.  I remember getting in the birth tub and realizing I was about to meet the newest addition to our family.  I remember pushing a baby out and holding it to my chest for minutes before looking to see if we had a son or daughter.  I remember crying with John and Scarlett when we announced that we had a son: Emmett William.  It was a beautiful birth and such a peaceful entrance into the world.

Emmett has this light inside of him. He just radiates this "all-knowing" love of life that makes you smile from the inside out.  There's just something about him that is special.  I am so blessed to call him mine :)

I cannot believe that it has been 6 months since he has blessed us with his presence.  I feel as though nothing and everything has changed. I cannot wait to add another baby to our family (John says only one more, so I may have to wait a bit!)... but I can wait at the same time.  I want to give Emmett every special little mommy moment that I can before he is a middle child.  (That and I didn't even see my cycle again for 13-14 months post-partum after Scarlett's birth - what can I say? we are an extended nursing and co-sleeping family)

Emmett had his first food yesterday.  An orange of all things. We practice "Baby-Led Feeding" where there is no puree, no mushed up, no baby food type thing.  Emmett grabbed Scarlett's orange yesterday with determination... and boy did he get a mouth full!  He also grabbed a piece of raw asparagus (but just licked it) and some avocado.  I'm pretty sure he likes food.  :)

Today's Resolution:  Try a new wine....  so CHEERS to Emmett's 1/2 a year birthday!  We are broke, so it was a cheap new bottle, but I won't complain. :)

We enjoyed a delicious picnic at the park yesterday afternoon! One of my best friends played "photographer" with my camera because, as she says I'm never in any of the pictures!  So, thank you Valerie for taking pictures of me with my babies!

Tomorrow's Resolution:  Start a new sewing project.

Excogitate

excogitate

\ eks-KOJ-i-teyt \  , verb;
1.
To think out; devise; invent.
2.
To study intently and carefully in order to grasp or comprehend fully.

I haven't yet used the word in a conversation, as it seems to be odd when said out loud, but it's an interesting word to know!

John left early this morning for his 30th birthday guys' snowboarding weekend.  They all met in West Virginia today and will enjoy the "winter" weather and beer :)  In his absence, one of my best friends from college is coming to spend the weekend with me!  Valerie and I were suite-mates our freshmen year at University of Central Florida. There is a group of 4 of us that have stayed best friends now for over 10 years.  (I'm a lucky girl to have such wonderful friends.)

Today's resolution was to spend the day out of the house.  I had two bootcamps to teach today, so I packed the kid up after breakfast and headed to the park early.  We played together before class started, and then I taught a fun group of pregnant mamas.  We enjoyed a picnic afterward and then I taught a hot-mamas' mommy-n-me bootcamp.  We headed to the grocery store to pick up some yummies for our fun weekend (wine, some things to make valentine's cookies, popcorn, you know... the necessities when a friend comes to town).  By the time we made it home, both kids were asleep in the car so I grabbed my book and turned the car off and sat with them and read a chapter!

The crockpot is almost done cooking a delicious whole chicken that we are going to use for chicken caesar salads tonight and chicken black bean burritos tomorrow night.  :)   It's about 6pm and Valerie should be here in 45 minutes. Both kids are still napping and I might just pour myself a glass of wine!

Tomorrow's resolution:   Have a picnic in a park.

See-Ya Trash Service!

Our trash is $32 a month for pick-up.  It is the only option on the island for trash service.  We thought it was absurd to pay for this, but we didn't think there was another option.  After carefully looking at our trash, it is approximately 90% recycle-able goods.  We already recycle, but we can do a much better job.  We have decided to cancel our trash service all together and use our three cans as recycle sorters.  Then we will make a trip down the road to the recycle center each week.  The thrown out food will be used in a composter, sent into the disposal, put into matilda's bowl, etc.  We are going to try it for a month and see how we do!  I'm pretty sure that covers the "Recycle Resolution for today!"
(Last trash pick up is the last Wednesday of February)

We also just bout E-Meals from groupon today.  It budgets your grocery list for the week for a specific grocery store and tailors it to what is on-sale and in season. NIIIIIIIIICE!

Today's resolution:  Find a new pandora radio station to listen to :)

I wanted to find some children's music that wasn't equivalent to "The Wheels on the Bus" that drives me insane after 10 minutes.  Here's what I found:  Elizabeth Mitchell!   Type her name into pandora and you get some great tunes to fill the background of the day!

Tomorrow's Resolution:  learn a new word.
